Following 2 years of success in the supply of some 200 portable defibrillators to cricket clubs and teams across the UK, The Club Cricket Charity and ECB are delighted to announce that a further sum of £30,000 has been made available to the NACC as part of Phase Two of their partnership.
This means that 30 teams chosen by the NACC will each receive a free unit and training in its use during 2020, adding to the 67 units provided free of charge in 2018.
At a memorable day out in that year, Lord’s Cricket Ground was the venue for a mass training exercise which was attended by over 80 trainees from across England and Wales organised by the NACC and the Community Heartbeat Trust.
It is a sad fact that cardiac arrest is one of the major causes of death at cricket matches. From the time of the heart stoppage to medical help arriving, the only way to keep a victim alive is by a combination of CPR techniques and the use of the defibrillator unit. The unit needs to be deployed within 5 minutes of the occurrence before the danger of the lack of blood to the brain can cause irreparable damage.
The unit fits into a kit bag and can be utilised immediately and effectively, giving instructions to the user on what to do and when.
In the first instance, teams interested in taking part in this project for a free defibrillator unit should apply to the NACC by email to info@nacc.co. One team member will be required to take responsibility for the unit and its regular monthly monitoring, reporting back to the suppliers that the unit is in good working order.
